I started teaching at RISD this week, so have to put things on hold in terms of my artwork. I am hoping that when things settle into the program I won’t have to do so much prep work and I will be able to get in a few hours a week in the studio. I’m really glad that I completed so much of the preparatory work on the paintings before I started teaching. Sometimes when I’m at a point where not enough of the preliminary work is completed, I feel like the entire process slows itself down. What’s good about these paintings is that the foundation of white is complete, and I walk by these canvasses that are just aching to be painted on. For me this is good motivation, so I feel like I’m constantly itching to get back to work on them irregardless of how demanding my teaching schedule might be. I am curious to see whether or not the yellow glazes are going to work in conjunction with the deep purples and blacks that the figures will be painted with. I have this feeling that it’s going to be either really good or really awful. I think when you get that specific with your approach and process things usually end up that way. Either way, I can’t wait to get back to them and see what the results are.
