Monotype: A Continuous Line of Figures February 13, 2008

I’ve been gradually photographing these monotypes and placing them into Photoshop so that I can line them in the appropriate sequence. In a lot of ways, this process helps me to get some distance on the work so I can evaluate the sequence of prints as a single piece. On this last monotype, I was surprised that the sequence of prints created a completely different effect than the previous prints. Unlike the majority of the other prints which largely feature either fewer figures, or figures that are significantly smaller in scale, this print had 4 larger figures in a row. The result is that when I lined them up in sequence, I saw them as a continuous line of figures, instead of an image which had been repeated several times.
This got me thinking whether I should be trying to create a stronger connection between the individual prints in this way. In the other prints it’s abundantly clear that each is of the same image, just articulated differently.
