One of my colleagues once described the art field as the “most failure prone” field one can possibly choose. You have to build an iron thick skin, be extremely resilient in many circumstances, and have rock solid tenacity and persistence. I read this article in the New York Times a few months back about Jim McCann, Chief Executive of 1-800-Flowers.com which described resilience from a business perspective. I like this excerpt from the article:

“If you look at highly successful people, they make the same number of mistakes as others, but they recover quickly. They don’t sit around moaning about what they’ve done wrong.”
