I came down with a nasty cold and fever the other night, which has put a damper on making major progress on these compositional sketches. What’s been interesting for me is how time consuming these sketches can be, simply because it’s essentially a large string of visual reactions, decisions, and relationships that are being formed and created throughout the process. I’m also discovering that I’m forming affinities for specific views of certain figures, something which also happened when I was doing compositional sketches in the Waiting Series a few years ago. I’m also looking to take advantage of overlapping figures to help emphasize the layers in the drawing, and certain poses are more conducive to this than others.
