Upcoming William Kentridge Lecture at the Museum of Fine Arts

I found out the other day that William Kentridge is doing a lecture on his work at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston in January. I really think he’s one of the most prolific and interesting artists working today, so I headed over to the MFA box office during my lunch break yesterday to purchase tickets.

I’ve always referenced his work in my classes because not only are his drawings highly distinctive, but he works with complex political and social themes in many of his pieces. I have to admit though, as much as I’ve studied his works, I haven’t yet had the opportunity to sit down and read more further about the details of his subject matter, which are heavily rooted in the history of South Africa. So I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get a greater understanding of his themes when I attend the lecture in January.
