Digital Images Misrepresenting Drawings

I’m shooting digital images as I make these drawings, and I’m noticing that a significant portion of the qualities of these drawings is getting lost when seen as a digital image. Inevitably, this is always the case when an image is reproduced, but the shift seems to be even greater with these drawings. Primarily, this is because of the surface texture and the sense of translucency is not easily captured digitally. The translucency comes across simply as another grey tone, and the surface texture doesn’t appear at all in many circumstances due to the large scale of the drawings. Below is a detail to show a more accurate view of the surface of these drawings.
